Steven LaChance Announces Long-Awaited Book on the Haunted History and Urban Legends of Zombie Road
“The road remembers.”
Acclaimed paranormal investigator and bestselling author Steven LaChance has officially begun work on a long-anticipated book exploring one of America’s most haunted locations—Zombie Road.
“I’ve been carrying this story for nearly twenty years,” LaChance says. “It began in 2005, during the height of the Screaming House investigation, when I took my team out to a wooded trail in Missouri known only through whispers and rumors. I thought we were chasing an urban legend. What we found was something far more disturbing.”
The new book will blend LaChance’s firsthand case files and research with the unsettling folklore and reported phenomena surrounding the infamous stretch of road. In the tradition of Confrontation with Evil, which explored the true story behind the boy who inspired The Exorcist, this new work aims to strip away sensationalism and reveal the emotional and supernatural core of one of America’s most persistent legends.
Originally dubbed “Zombie Road” by local teens, the trail’s real name is Lawler Ford Road. It has been the subject of ghost stories, shadow figure sightings, disembodied voices, cult rumors, and even alleged UFO activity. What began as a casual investigation quickly turned into a media firestorm that helped put Zombie Road firmly on the map of American paranormal history.
Each chapter of the book will open with a real case file—documented history, interviews, and field notes—followed by a dramatized interpretation of how events may have unfolded in the shadows. The result is a haunting exploration of both what happened and what people believe happened, and the space where those two truths blur.
“Like with the Exorcist case, people think they know this story,” LaChance adds. “They don’t.”
The book is currently in development and is expected to release within the next year. With this project, LaChance returns to the field that launched his career—where myth meets memory, and the road remembers.
Stay tuned. The story is finally being told.
