Pride Month is Protest

Tomorrow we step into Pride Month. And this year—more than ever—we have to remember that while there’s celebration, Pride is, and always has been, about activism. It’s about marching for equality and justice, not just for LGBTQIA+ folks, but for everyone.

I know it’s cliché to say, but it matters: we cannot forget our past. The first Pride wasn’t a party—it was a riot. People fought back because they were pushed too far. I’m not saying take to the streets and start breaking windows—but I am saying: we need to remember where we come from. We march proudly first—but if we’re confronted, we fight. That’s the truth.

And let’s be honest: the police are not our allies. If this far-right regime keeps gaining power, they’ll be the ones on the front lines—not on our side. I know we all want to believe in peace and love. I do too. But some moments in history demand more than peace signs and hope. Some moments demand resistance.

This could be one of those moments.

There are far-right extremists who feel emboldened right now. And not all of them are just keyboard warriors. So protect yourselves. Watch each other’s backs at your events. Show your pride loudly, unapologetically—but stay sharp. Stay safe.

I wish this post could be all glitter and love. But this year is different. This year, we go back to our roots. We remember who we are, who came before us, and what they endured. We carry that fire. We wear it on our hearts—with pride and with serious conviction.

I love you all. Be safe out there. Stay loud. Stay ready.
