Rise Against Hate

Rise against hate and never edit of back away from it, fight.

Yesterday, I was called a devil worshipper because I posted that I have no tolerance for hate, fascism, racism, sexism, or homophobia. I was accused of blasphemy for saying that my church is internal and that I maintain an ongoing personal conversation with God. I was even labeled evil because my book, Glow, features gay characters. I had to laugh because I can’t wait for them to read Gorilla—and I know they will. They won’t be able to resist the temptation to complain. Let’s face it, we all know these people.

I can handle all of this. You simply don’t live an open gay life without facing the ignorance of others. My point is to show you what an average day on social media is like for people like me, especially since the election of the chief hater and fascist, Donald Trump, who has emboldened the ignorant to display their hatefulness to the world.

If you want to understand why I have so much to say about the current dystopic state of affairs, know that it comes not only from a place of compassion for others and patriotism for my country—a nation under attack from within—but also from a personal refusal to be silenced. I will not let them silence me; in fact, the more they try, the louder I will become.
