US Immigration: Extra Vetting

I was in the St. Louis airport going through immigration after flying in from Mexico just this week. They are doing random extra vetting. The family right in front of me was sent into an extra vetting room while I was let through.

They can search your phone—so make sure you don’t have anything on it that you don’t want someone else to see. Before going through US immigration, put your phone into airplane mode; even better, power it down completely. Know your rights and don’t be afraid to let them know that you know them. Even though US citizens can refuse to open their phones, they will most likely confiscate it, and you won’t get it back for a few weeks. If you’re worried, you can always delete your social media and reinstall them afterwards.

The point is that every time you go through US immigration, you are subject to search, and they’re doing just that every day. If you are coming from a foreign country and are not a US citizen, I would strongly urge you to avoid the US—especially if you are one of the targeted groups by the Trump administration. Just avoid it completely. People are being detained and imprisoned for no reason.

Welcome to fascism. This is part of it.
